Friedensplatz, whose name means "Peace Square", is named in memory of the Peace of Westphalia, which was signed in 1648 and ended the Thirty Years' War. This square is therefore considered a symbol of peace and stability.
Dortmund is a large German city located in the western part of the country. With more than 600,000 inhabitants, Dortmund is the eighth largest city in Germany and is the center of the Rhine Ruhr, one of the most industrialized regions in Europe.
Dortmund has a rich history that dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. However, from the 19th century, the city became an industrial center thanks to its significant source of coal and steel. At that time, Dortmund became one of the most important cities for coal mining and metallurgy in Germany. The associated industrial development led to considerable growth and urbanization of the city.
The city of Dortmund also offers many cultural and historical monuments. Among the most important is the Gothic Dortmund Town Hall, which is located in the historic center of the city. Others include the Reinoldikirche, a 13th-century Gothic church, and the Dortmunder U, a former brewery tower turned modern cultural center and gallery.
