Ještěd is an iconic mountain and TV tower located on the Ještěd-Kozák ridge near Liberec. This majestic mountain with a height of 1,012 meters above sea level not only dominates the landscape, but has also acquired the status of a national symbol and a symbol of Liberec and the surrounding region.
The history of Ještěd dates back to the 14th century, when a stone tower and a guard castle stood on the top. Later, this original castle was rebuilt into a hunting lodge, but it was almost destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. In the 18th century, the tower on Ještěd became a popular destination for romantic trips. However, this tower was destroyed during World War II.
The current form of Ještěd is the result of the architectural mastery of the 1960s. Architect Karel Hubáček designed a modernist tower that stands out for its unique shape and simplicity. Ještěd was completed in 1973 and since then has served as an important TV tower, hotel and restaurant. A cable car from Horní Hanychov leads just below the summit.
On the slopes of Ještěd, at an altitude of 540-1000m, the Ještěd Ski Resort stretches. The ski center on Ještěd offers 9.2 km of slopes of all levels of difficulty, 2 four-seater and 1 two-seater cable car and 5 lifts. On the Ještědský ridge, there is the well-known Turistická Chata Pláně with year-round operation.

Liberec is a regional city of the Liberec Region and has approximately 100,000 inhabitants. It is thus the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic.
The city can offer many important buildings and monuments. Perhaps the most famous of all is the unique construction of a hotel and transmitter in Ještěd, which has become a dominant feature of Liberec and the entire region. The building, built in 1973 according to the project of architect Karel Hubáček, was later awarded the prestigious Perret Prize of the International Union of Architects - Ještěd was awarded the title Building of the Century. A cable car leads to the top of Ještěd. On the ground floor of the Ještěd hotel there is a freely accessible covered observation deck, a restaurant and on the first floor there is a café. There is a hotel on the other floors. The Ještěd peak itself reaches a height of 1012 meters and on its slopes is the Ještěd ski area, which is very well accessible directly from the city.
One of the other symbols of the city of Liberec is the neo-renaissance building of the Liberec town hall, which was built in 1893 according to the project of the Viennese architect F. Neumann and whose appearance is close to the town hall in Vienna. Other sights of the city include the Church of St. Antonín the Great on Sokolovské náměstí, which, thanks to its 70 m high tower, forms one of the dominants of Liberec. The most valuable Baroque building in Liberec is the Church of St. Crisis. An important monument is also the Liberec chateau, which was built by the Redern family in the middle of the 16th century. Other monuments are: Wallenstein houses in Větrná street, a beautiful neo-renaissance building of the Municipal Spa, the North Bohemian Museum and another neo-renaissance building - the F. X. Šalda Theater.
The Zoo in Liberec is the oldest zoo in Bohemia. It was founded in 1904 and houses more than 170 species of animals. Among its biggest attractions are white tigers and sea lions.
