Saint Petersburg - Peter and Paul Fortress
Show webcamThe Petropavlovsk Fortress (Russian: Петропавловская крепость) is a historic fortress located on Vasilyevsky Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The fortress is one of the oldest parts of the city and at the same time one of the most important symbols of St. Petersburg.
The fortress was founded in 1703 by order of Tsar Peter the Great, the founder of St. Petersburg. It is named after Peter and Paul, the patron saints of Russia.
Saint Petersburg, which is the second largest city of the Russian Federation, is nicknamed the Venice of the North thanks to the network of man-made canals. When visiting St. Petersburg, don't miss the climb to the walkway around the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral, from which you will experience an unforgettable view of the entire city.
Take a look at the cameras to see if the bridges on the Neva River have lifted due to the passage of tall cargo ships and you won't have to be stuck on the wrong bank for several hours :-)
