Saint Isaac's Cathedral (Russian: Исаакиевский собор) is one of the most important monuments in Saint Petersburg. It is located on the Isaakijevskaja Ploščad square, near the Neva and the Winter Palace. St. Isaac's Cathedral is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world and its monumental architecture is impressive. It was built between 1818 and 1858 by order of Tsar Nicholas I and is dedicated to St. Isaac of Dalmatia, one of the Orthodox saints.
Saint Petersburg, which is the second largest city of the Russian Federation, is nicknamed the Venice of the North thanks to the network of man-made canals. When visiting St. Petersburg, don't miss the climb to the walkway around the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral, from which you will experience an unforgettable view of the entire city.
Take a look at the cameras to see if the bridges on the Neva River have lifted due to the passage of tall cargo ships and you won't have to be stuck on the wrong bank for several hours :-)
