In the Tyrrhenian Sea, near the coast of Sicily, there is a group of islands that represent a real natural gem - the Aeolian Islands. One of the most famous islands in this group is Stromboli, which attracts visitors from all over the world with its volcanic activity. The Aeolian Islands are made up of seven main islands: Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi and Alicudi.
Stromboli is a stratovolcano that is made up of layers of volcanic ash and solid. Its characteristic feature is the periodic and regular ejection of volcanic material, including lava and volcanic gases, which is unique among most volcanoes. This phenomenon, called "Strombolian eruption", is caused by the constant flow of lava towards the surface of the volcano.
Stromboli eruptions are usually small and less explosive than other volcanoes. This allows tourists and scientists to approach the active crater and observe its fire show up close.
