Jičín, known as the City of Fairy Tales, became famous as Václav Čtvrtek with stories about the robber Rumcajs and his family, but also architectural monuments from the time of Albrecht of Wallenstein, who wanted to build the capital of his estate here.

Today, Jičín is a city monument reserve, in which we find a number of historical monuments, especially a Baroque castle connected by a covered staircase with the Church of St. James the Greater. The dominant feature is the popular lookout point Valdická brána, on the opposite side of the square stands the church of St. Ignatius in the immediate vicinity of the Wallenstein monument - the Jesuit college. Albrecht of Wallenstein, after choosing Jičín as the seat of the Duchy of Frýdlant, did not have to build a Wallenstein loggia here. The court of honor with a park, a summer house and a sala terrena became a place where the duke's guests went for fun, hunting and relaxation.

The writer Václav Čtvrtek, who spent his childhood in Jičín, transferred Jičín and its surroundings to talk about the robber Rumcajs, his wife Manka and the robber's son Cipísk. The painter and illustrator Radek Pilař gave the Rumcajs family an artistic form. Mr. Thursday, Pilař and their fairy-tale heroes can be met mainly by young visitors, for example, in an interactive exhibition in the information center, in Rumcajs's shoemaker under the Valdice Gate or at the annual festival Jičín - the city of fairy tales. You can visit the Rumcajs Cave itself in the nearby Prachovské skaly, which offer visitors several walking circuits.

The nearby Zebín hill invites to another hiking trip, to which an educational trail leads directly from Jičín. For swimming in the summer months, visitors to Jičín can use the nearby Jinolické ponds or the Kníže swimming pool directly in the town. Families with children will certainly welcome a visit to the local water park, and adult tourists can relax in the Hilarion Spa in Jičín.
