Vodňany is located in southern Bohemia in a landscape full of ponds, 30 km northwest of České Budějovice on the river Blanica. The town is known for its fishing and pond tradition. In 1920, the only Czech secondary fishing school was established in Vodňany.
The city offers many attractive places, such as the exposition of the Municipal Museum in the former synagogue, dedicated to the history of the city, pond farming and milling. Another museum is the Museum of the Secondary Fishing School, which has two parts - an aquarium with live fish and a historical part that documents the development of individual areas of fishing. A fishing cycle path also begins in the town. You can combine a trip to Vodňany with one of the local events, fishing for the largest pond in Vodňany - Dřemlina, a fish fair or fishing competitions. Near Vodňany is the Vysoký Kamýk lookout tower, the private Crocodile ZOO Protivín, the Hluboká nad Vltavou Chateau, which is one of the most beautiful castles in Bohemia. In winter, skiers can use the nearby Kubova Huť Ski Resort, which stretches south of Vimperk at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,200 m.
