Olomouc is the second largest monument reserve in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it is a statutory and university city, the center of the Olomouc Region and the metropolis of Haná. Olomouc was the first capital of Moravia, but later lost this position to Brno. The second oldest university in Bohemia is located in Olomouc - Palacký University, and in Moravia it is the oldest university.
In Olomouc it is possible to visit a number of monuments. The pride of the city is the Baroque column of the Holy Trinity, registered since 2001 among UNESCO monuments. The column is 35 m high and planted with more than 40 statues. It is the most magnificent building of its kind in the Czech Republic. The column from V. Render's stonemason's workshop was consecrated in 1754 in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Olomouc offers other attractive places: monasteries and temples, art and technical museums, large parks, a zoo and an aqua park.
Important monuments include the Archbishop's Palace, which has served since 1777 to the present as the residence of the Olomouc bishops and archbishops. In many parts of the city there are preserved parts of military fortresses, which were still part of the unique fortifications during the 19th century, now they are connected by an educational trail for cyclists and pedestrians. Among the most visited places is the pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on the nearby Holy Hill. On Holy Hill there is also a zoo with a shark aquarium, a lookout tower and a children's rope park.
In 1995, Pope John Paul II visited Olomouc. and took place here in the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas canonization of St. John Sarkander and St. Zdislava. The pilgrimage church on Sv. The hill was elevated to a basilica minor.

The Czech Republic was established on January 1, 1993 by the division of Czechoslovakia. The official name of the state according to the constitution is the Czech Republic.
